On 26 February 2026, as part of the AQUALOOP International Conference in Bremerhaven, participants took part in a study visit to the Centre of Aquaculture Research AWI.
The visit provided valuable insights into state-of-the-art research infrastructure supporting circular aquaculture. The centre features modern, closed recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) designed for freshwater, brackish, and marine environments, enabling the cultivation of a wide range of organisms, including fish, crustaceans, and algae.
Participants were introduced to the flexibility of the facilities, which are highly customizable and supported by advanced greenhouses, culture rooms, and laboratory spaces. These capabilities allow for diverse experimental setups and innovative research approaches tailored to the evolving needs of sustainable aquaculture.
The study visit offered an excellent opportunity to explore how cutting-edge infrastructure can support the development of circular economy solutions in aquaculture, while also fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration among international experts.
Big thank you to the Centre of Aquaculture Research AWI for hosting AquaLoop!
