K2 Trout farm – next stop on the University of Rostock aquaculture students Polish adventure

Our guest students from the University of Rostock had a unique opportunity to explore a large-scale recirculating aquaculture facility in Poland, marking an exciting new experience for them. The visit provided valuable firsthand insights into the world of RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System) and the intricacies of modern aquaculture.

K2 Trout Farm operates two state-of-the-art facilities near Lębork, approximately one hour from Gdynia in the Pomeranian region of northern Poland. These facilities focus on breeding rainbow trout, with water sourced from the Łeba-Struga Kisewska river basin and deep water wells.

The farm is equipped with a cutting-edge RAS, which allows for the continuous reuse of water through advanced purification technologies, ensuring both sustainability and efficiency.

The production system runs in a closed cycle, taking fish from eggs to market size at two locations. With significant production capacity, K2 Trout Farm caters to local, national, and international markets. To support local sales, the farm features a small processing plant and also offers smoked fish products.

We are grateful to K2 Trout farm for another visit possibility, cooperation and inspiration for our visiting students. Visit to K2 Trout Farm was part of the AquaLoop cross-border student exchange program.
