AquaLoop study visit to Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fishery & Aquaculture Laboratory

Last week, taking the opportunity that the second AquaLoop partner meeting took place at the Klaipeda University, Lithuania, project partners visited the facilities of Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fishery & Aquaculture Laboratory.

Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fishery & Aquaculture Laboratoryis the venue for one of the AquaLoop pilot 3: FISHVISA – Development of the Fish-Shrimp-Vegetables integrated system of aquaponics to showcase the potential of circular economy principles in RAS, with dr. Nerijus Nika, Head of the Fishery & Aquaculture Laboratory leading the teamworking on the experimentscarried out in the Glashouse and aquaponics system completed in 2023, showcasning coproduction of fish, crustacean and plant species in one system.

Klaipeda University Marine Research Institute Fishery & Aquaculture Laboratory is part of the Marine Research Institute, a subdivision of Klaipėda University, conducting fundamental and applied research on marine and coastal environment and maritime technologies. The Institute aims to facilitate science, study, and business cooperation, based on high-level scientific knowledge and the up-to-date open access research infrastructure (https://jti.ku.lt/en/).

It was a great pleasure to see the facility together with other AquaLoop partners to get inspiration for further circular cross-activities.
