{"id":2581,"date":"2025-06-16T18:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T18:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aqualoop.edu.pl\/?p=2581"},"modified":"2025-06-26T10:54:46","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T10:54:46","slug":"university-of-rostock-students-explore-aquaculture-innovations-at-klaipeda-university-as-part-of-the-aqualoop-cross-border-student-exchange-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aqualoop.edu.pl\/?p=2581","title":{"rendered":"University of Rostock students explore aquaculture innovations at Klaipeda University as part of the AquaLoop Cross-Border Student Exchange Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From June 8th to June 14th, four master\u2019s students from the <strong>University of Rostock<\/strong> took part in an enriching week-long study visit to <strong>Klaipeda University \u2013 Marine Research Institute<\/strong>, under the framework of the AquaLoop Cross-Border Student Exchange Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit began with a warm welcome and an introduction to the Marine Research Institute\u2019s infrastructure and ongoing research activities, including a tour in the <strong>shrimp RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System) facility<\/strong> and  the <strong>Fisheries and Aquaculture Laboratory<\/strong>. The students received an overview of the <strong>AquaLoop project<\/strong>, with a special focus on <strong>Pilot 3 \u2013 FISHVISA<\/strong>, an innovative aquaponics-based system integrating fish, crayfish, and plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the week, students engaged in a range of <strong>hands-on activities<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Measuring fish and crayfish,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Handling aquaponic plant systems,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Setting up and monitoring a <strong>short-term crayfish feeding experiment<\/strong> using fish feces as feed,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performing <strong>routine maintenance<\/strong> on the fish RAS and analyzing <strong>garfish eggs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit also included a <strong>field trip to an Arctic char aquaculture farm<\/strong>, offering insights into regional fish farming practices and sustainability challenges in the Klaipeda region.
