The session focused on the company’s operations, the sustainable fish products they offer, internship opportunities for students, and potential careers in aquaculture.

During the meeting, students had the opportunity to learn about Gårdsfisk, a company dedicated to producing and selling fish raised in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner. Founded with the mission to improve environmental quality and food production, Gårdsfisk primarily farms African catfish and tilapia in southern Sweden, using Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). Their innovative approach combines fish farming with agriculture, repurposing byproducts such as fish waste into fertilizers for crops. This method enhances resource efficiency and reduces environmental impact, addressing the challenges of traditional fish farming, such as overfishing and habitat degradation.

The company’s product range was also introduced, featuring smoked catfish and fish meatballs. These products have gained popularity in Sweden as sustainable alternatives to imported seafood, reflecting Gårdsfisk’s commitment to blending technological advancement with environmental responsibility.

Pauline Le Berre highlighted the company’s internship programs, offering placements ranging from 4 to 12 weeks. These internships provide students with hands-on experience in the field of sustainable fish farming, making them an excellent opportunity for those interested in real-world aquaculture practices. Additionally, Pauline shared valuable insights into the diverse job opportunities available within the aquaculture sector, encouraging students to explore potential career paths in this growing industry.

The meeting was well-received by the students, who engaged actively during the Q&A session, asking insightful questions.
